Ban Lei was born in 1990 in Shanghai, China. He was also best-known for his stage name ‘BANBANBANBAN’ as a computer sound designer, game artist and future arts enthusiast.
His work followed self- operation artificial intelligence, aim to create an unknown possible dimension world other than 3-dimension world. From the direction of computer interactive technology development, he feel that another dimension of the world is being built, the artificial intelligence that human and human subconscious created will finally turn to be equal with human, which break the current sub-coordinate relationship. Hisexperimentation and exploration hope to bring people the possibility of future.
In 2012, Ban went the US to further develop his skills in film scoring and sound environment design. During his stay in the US, he is involved in the production of many independent films. For instance, the film ’The Hole’ was nominated as Best Short Film in Berlin International Film Festival 2013.
Followed in 2015, Ban Lei announced his new media art project called ’Default’ and teamed up with visual artists, installation artists and interactive media artists that worked as an experimental group. Their work mainly focused on experimentation of future technology as well as the interactive experience of new media art.
In 2016, Ban Lei started to create electronic music and sound art installation under his stage name ’BANBANBANBAN’. Different from his previous soundtrack work, ‘BANBANBANBAN’ has released his experimental electronic music album entitled ‘7/21’ and published by Switzerland record label HU.
In 2017, a fortunate opportunity led him to VR technology, he was very curious about the game engine and spent a year learning, researching and exploring the human aspects of these technologies. Based on this knowledge, he rethought the value of art for himself.
In 2018, he was invited by the Prohelvetia to represent new generation of Chinese artist and went to Switzerland to participate in the artist's residence.
